Sligo’s Monthly Comedy night Craic’s
out of the Box and into McGarrigles
Sligo’s well-established monthly comedy night; Craic in the
Box, is on the move once again. Started up by The Model Arts and
Niland Gallery in 2004 and hosted by John Colleary ever since, Craic
in the Box has played host to some of the leading lights of Irish
and international comedy in the past; including Des Bishop, Jason
Byrne, Neil Delamere, Adam Hills, Maeve Higgins, PJ Gallagher, Danny
Bhoy, Jeff Greene and Dom Irera to name but a few.
The Model Niland is temporarily closed this year to facilitate
an exciting redevelopment that will deliver a brilliant new theatre
space for the comedy club when it re-opens late next year. In
the meantime though the club has been on the move trying on new
homes for size, and this month they’ll be hosting a special
Christmas show upstairs in McGarrigles on Saturday December 13th.
In keeping with these recessionary times the gig will be informal
and low key with tickets at just €10 on the door, but the
same high calibre laughs as always will be delivered by John Colleary,
and his guests Bob Hennigan and Colum McDonnell. |

No stranger to Sligo audiences; what Colum
McDonnell lacks in stature, he gains in laughter. The Fundalk-ian
is a firm favourite on the comedy circuit touring with the
likes of Ardal O’Hanlon, Joe Rooney, Jason Byrne and
Colin Murphy. Widely known for his appearances with the dynamic
duo Podge and Rodge both in their television and live shows
in Vicar Street and beyond, "A fireball
of on the money humour...this guy is a must see" - Talkfringe.com
Colum will be joined by up and comer Bob Hennigan in his
first Sligo gig, and John Colleary will be on hand to put
manners on them both- or not, aas the case may be! Tickets
are €10 and available on the Door of McGarrigles, upstairs,
on Sat 13th December from 8.30pm. www.myspace.com/craicinthebox |
