Rare treat in store for Summer Workshop kids!

On the occasion of Sean McSweeney’s major retrospective, an exciting series of four day landscape workshops for children, are the focus of this summer’s children’s programme at The Model. Children, aged 7 to 10 years are invited to join environmental artist Jessica Reid in exploring the landscape through paint, charcoal, crayons, pencils, clay, wood, plaster, wool and natural materials. They will also spend time outside discovering some of the most common native Irish trees, plants and flowers and will experience some of the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of nature.

Children, aged 11 to 13 years are invited to join artist Heidi Wickham in an action- packed four days of exploring the landscape through photography, collage, printing, weaving and felting. They will learn how to construct their own looms and using natural fibres, will weave their impressions of the landscape.

Sean McSweeney is an artist who has often spoken about the pleasure he gets from working with oils, the smell and the texture and the joy of “beating into a canvas”. As a very rare treat, the children participating in this programme are to be the lucky recipients of an invitation to visit Sean’s studio in Ballyconnell, North County Sligo, where he lives and works. While there, these lucky children will have a unique opportunity to experiment with oils with Sean in his studio.

Workshops for 7 to 10 year olds will run from Tuesdays to Fridays, 3rd to 6th July

Workshops for 11 to 13 year olds,10th to 13th July.

Both workshops will run 10.30 am to 1.00 pm.

Participation is free. As places are limited, early booking is essential.
