Craic in the Box Review

Fri 10 February

MC John Colleary presents Jason Byrne, with support from Colum McDonnell

Bomber jackets and Germans beware- he’s back! One of the most daring and original comedians around Jason is a Craic favourite.  Currently lighting up our TV screens with his hit show Anonymous on RTE 2, Jason simply excels at stand up and is most at home on the stage.  He has been one of the fastest selling performers at the last 6 Edinburgh Festivals, where his sell out shows have brought forth firstly a nomination for the 1998 Perrier Newcomer Award and then a much revered Perrier Award Nomination for his outstanding 2001 show. In 2004 he was winner of the Forth One Fringe Award.  His fast, free-wheeling style is inspired lunacy, and his helter-skelter of a show promises the audience the ride of your life, or your money back!

“Part Spike Milligan, part Duracell Bunny, Byrne’s roller coaster of improv and sketches run on a subtle combination of comic genius and raw energy. Jason Byrne is a truly unique experience, and quite simply one of Ireland ’s finest and most daring comedians. Unmissable.”

One of our most popular supports of 2005, Colum McDonnell, the “wee” man from Dundalk , is back.  A self-confessed walking bundle of immaturity and childish energy, Colum’s material reflects an inner child screaming to get out … and he invariably does, once this man takes to the stage.A finalist in the 2002 BBC newcomers and the channel 4 "so you think your funny?" competitions, Colum has gone on to play all the major clubs in Ireland and to support both Joe Rooney and Colin Murphy in Vicar St.  Often mistaken for one of the hobbits in Lord of the Rings, his tales of magpies, trains, and DIY kennels will leave you laughing your little pants off!
