COMPOSITION COMPETITION

Submissions were invited from composers of any age and nationality living in Ireland or the UK for unperformed, unpublished works not longer than ten minutes duration using any three, four or all five of the following instruments: flute, B flat clarinet, piano, violin, cello (no doublings).

The three final works chosen this year by the judges and their respective composers, are as follows :

‘ Ghost of Wind ‘ composed by Paolo Baggio

‘ let-down erosion ‘ composed by Larry Goves

‘ …et presque tout est hieroglyphe ‘ composed by Gavin Wayte

These three pieces will be workshopped and performed on Sunday 3rd April by leading British ensemble Ixion, the 2005 Festival’s resident group, and a prize of 1000 Euro kindly sponsored by IMRO, the Irish Music Rights Organisation, will be awarded to the work deemed by a jury to be the best. Andrew Toovey, the Festival’s featured composer, will lead both the workshop and the jury.
