The
2006 Sligo New Music Festival focused on the beautiful and
haunting music of two of the 20th century’s most important
composers; Morton Feldman (1926-1987) and the Luigi Nono
(1924-1990). Performers included the very popular Callino
Quartet, as well as the superb young British pianist Sarah
Nicolls. Highlights of the Festival included a rare
performance of Feldman’s hour-long Piano
and String Quartet, Nono’s La
lontananza… for solo violin and live
electronics and a new work from Irish composer Jurgen
Simpson in collaboration with poet Sinead Morriseey which
was commissioned by the sligo new music festival.
The
2005 New Music Festival featured commissioned Simon Mawhinny
to rescore the classic silent film Nosferatu.
