Blake & Sons; Alternative Lifestyles and Mysticism in Contemporary Art

This exhibition examines the works of the eighteenth century painter, engraver and poet, William Blake and relates them to current trends in contemporary art practice.  Blake was an advocate of alternative ways of living and through his writings and artwork he intended to improve the standard of life for all society.  He was soon followed by a host of alternative lifestyle movements.  Blake & Sons presents international contemporary artists who demonstrate in their work the influence of William Blake and alternative lifestyle movements. This exhibition aims to create a relationship between Blake and contemporary artists thereby emphasizing William Blake’s important role within the history of ideas, and presenting him as a founding father of alternative lifestyles.
