| Hall, who was born in Tipperary in 1935, studied art in London during the 1950s. The exhibition includes work from as early as 1958 including early experiments with abstract painting and a number of works made during a period of time living in Spain in the late 1960’s. It is brought up to date with works completed in 2005 and 2006. The exhibition includes many different subjects, styles and approaches, from landscape, portraits and angels – but underlying all the work is a concern with the inner life of the individual and a desire to address emotions or ideas which evade our powers of description. His practice is at all times honest, personal and infused with an essential humanity.
The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with texts by Sarah Glennie and Isabel Nolan and an interview by Patrick Hall and Molly Sullivan, available from the Model Arts and Niland Gallery bookshop for 15 euro (contact reception@modelart.ie) |
