  Site-Ations International 2005/2006 : Sense in Place

Site-Ations is an international exhibition involving artists from the furthest reaches of Europe, which aims to examine contemporary visual art practise in six different and diverse areas. The show is guest curated by Anna MacLeod, and the Model is delighted to facilitate this exciting exhibition.

Site-Ations is a collaborative visual art project involving six artist-led groups from the peripheries of Europe. The project will unfold over a year in the form of six events in six countries and will be complemented by three seminars, an education project, a web site and a catalogue.

The overall theme for 2005 is the notion of place as a determining factor in contemporary visual practice. 'Sense in place' suggests that place has its own dynamism, and can trigger particular modes of awareness, perception and imaginative response. Being 'in place' shifts the artist from the position of external and detached observer to that of the participatory centre immersed in the processes within that place.

Site-Ations aims to bring together a number of thematic approaches to place, offering artists, curators and other professionals the opportunity to exhibit in, reside in or respond to different and diverse places across Europe. Anna MacLeod of the Artist Exchange will oversee the Irish leg of the project.

The artists involved in the Sligo leg of the project are Aigars Bikse, Latvia; Erling Klingenberg and Olga Bergman, Iceland; Helen Ann Jones, Wales; Xavi Munoz, and Mabi Revuelta, Spain and Christian Tomaszewski and Macej Kurak, Poland.

Site-Ations International 2005/6 is grant aided by the Arts Council of Ireland, The Arts Office Sligo County Council and the Model Arts and Niland Gallery.
