SoundTrack for a Day Exhibition will be opened by Grace Weir on Mon 6th July at 6pm at 32-34 High Street, Sligo as part of Cairde. All Welcome.

Artist Karl Burke has been commissioned by The Model, with support from the Arts Council, to develop a new work in collaboration with a group of individuals with learning and sensory disability.

The resulting project: The Karl Burke Sound Project is a partnership between artist Karl Burke and a group of individuals with learning disabilities. This dynamic group came together under the supervision of the artist Karl Burke and was facilitated by The Model and the HSE West learning disability service. The group began to experiment with the theme of creating a SoundTrack for a Day and the workshops took place in the forest at Union Woods.

Referencing the role of soundtracks in film making, the sounds created by the group trace the changing climatic sounds of rain, thunder, wind and sun. A range of musical instruments and found objects were used to create the composition including xylophones, recorders, tin whistles and shakers. The orchestra also experimented with sound using stones, plastic and other found objects.

Karl Burke is an interdisciplinary artist and musician whose practice includes sculpture, sound, installation, photography and film. Exhibiting both nationally and internationally, his work is concerned with our relationship to, and perceptions of, the three dimensional world. It endeavors to form a physical and emotive relationship between the art, the place and the viewer.

The Karl Burke Sound Project was made possible by the kind support of the Arts Council, HSE West - Learning Disability Service ( in particular John Truelove), Sligo County Council and Sligo Borough Council,
